Updating phoenix award bios
The machine currently has the chipset : SIS 672 968Now my question is,have you ever heard of scenarios where such updates/upgrades worked out successfully without corrupting the motherboard before i proceed and damage my machine?
many thanks, Simon Nairobi, Kenya Having the proper bios update and a successful updating done, generally is a good result.
Due to the size limitation of a 2.88MB floppy disk, you can only use a BIOS file and flashtool whose total file size is max ~2.7MB!

However the FSB speed for the QX6850 is 1333Mhz while that for the E4600 is 800Mhz and my motherboard documentation details that it can only support up to 800Mhz.
However, going out on a bit of a limb here, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the FSB is managed by the northbirdge chipset and not the BIOS if I'm not mistaken.
This is the problem with cpu upgrades, its always best to stay in the same cpu family or class for the most compatible install.
However, there is nothing to prevent you from actually installing the latest bios update and proceed from there.
The update alone may provide other fixes that for now are unknown to you, then again if it doesn't address your problem, that's a moot -----Willy Thanks Willy for taking the time to reply!
I have done some little research and actually found that its not necessarily the BIOS that needs to be updated/upgraded for it to be able to support RAM and CPU FSB with 1333Mhz but it's the motherbaord chipset that needs to be.
